Aiming to inspire…
We give a range of CS4FN linked Computer Science talks and workshops in schools on request (time and time tabling allowing). Below are overviews and related articles for some of our talks.
Book talks through the QMUL School of EECS booking portal.
The illusion of good software design

Good programming is about more than writing code that works. We explore why it is important that it does not contribute to human error. Drawing on illusions we show how everyone makes mistakes then looking at medical device software we see how computer scientists can design software to help prevent human error.
Women in Computer Science

Women have made a major contribution to computer science though many of those responsible are little know. We tell the story of some of the most important.
The Magic of Computer Science

Magicians inventing new tricks have to think in the same way as computer scientists writing good programs. We do a series of tricks, teach participants how to do them and explain linked computer science
Artificial Intelligence: but where is the intelligence

We explore the two main ways computer scientists have tried, since the invention of the first computers, to create intelligent machines. One way is to write programs to do the things that we can do, the other is to write programs that work the way our brains work. We see an intelligent piece of paper, make a working brain out of rope, tubes and kids, and build a machine that learns because we eat its sweets.
Searching to Speak

How do you write a book with Locked-in Syndrome: a condition where you are totally paralysed though if lucky can blink one eye. We explore computational thinking and search algorithms by exploring how to help such people communicate (even without technology).
