NASA’s interstellar probe Voyager 1 went silent until computer scientists transmitted a fix that had to travel 15 billion miles!

The data coming in from NASA’s Voyager 1 was suddenly gibberish, but it had a pattern. Keen-eyed computer scientists managed to make sense of it, work out the problem it indicated and transmit a fix to the nearly 50 year old computer on a spacecraft that’s 15 billion miles away. Not bad going.
